About Steve Houston
Born
in Cromwell in 1974, Steve Houston was brought up in the high country
of Southland, New Zealand, where his father was shepherding and managing.
As a child he had ponies which were ridden on the station. Upon finishing
school, he started work in North Canterbury high country as a shepherd
and spent the next 5 years there and in the Mackenzie country.
In
1995 Steve travelled to Canada and USA where he was first exposed
to alternative methods of working with horses. Returning to New Zealand
and shepherding for a further two years, Steve realised he really
wanted to trade working with dogs for a career in working with horses.
|
He
returned to Canada and USA in 1998 and spent nearly two years
working with as many different people as possible, breaking in,
training and starting horses, while also attending as many clinics
as he could.
Back
in New Zealand in late 1999, Steve started up his own business
starting horses and working with problem horses. Since then he
has returned to Canada and USA 4 times for periods of up to 3
months furthering his knowledge. From Canada to Texas he has worked
with a wide variety of horses and breeds in many different disciplines,
spending the last two trips with Robin Hahn, 3x Canadian Olympian.

Since 1996
Steve Houston has started over 1000 head of horses. He thoroughly
enjoys the process of learning and finding what each new horse
can teach.

is currently living in Ruapuna, South Canterbury, New Zealand,
with his wife
Sally and their three daughters - Amelia, Nadia and Pieta.
